Mentoring is a relationship between two people with the goal of professional and personal development. The "mentor" is usually an experienced individual who shares knowledge, experience, and advice with a less experienced person, or "mentee."
Are you looking for one-to-one support to startup or scaleup your business?
If you are a mentor could be just what you need!
How does mentoring work?
Mentoring is not a quick fix.
A mentoring relationship usually spans a six-month period or more and usually focuses upon the mentee achieving an agreed goals, targets, which they will be held responsible for achieving.
Ideally it's a half-day, twice monthly, delivered face-to-face or online arrangement.
Initially your mentor will want to discover your preferred learning style and uncover the realities of 'where you are now'.
You would then explore together a schedule of work, goals, targets, resources you would be working towards achieving. These would be specific, measurable, realistic and timebound and contracted for.
Every mentoring session should be uninterrupted and include you both establishing the objectives of the session, agreed time scales and a review to action plan your next steps.
Your mentor should also be available via telephone or email if suddenly things pop-up that you might need some instant feedback on.
Mentoring is based upon the trust you have in your mentor -so do choose your mentor wisely. A mentor should be chosen because they have the skills and experience you lack.
It's their business to help you develop your business, so you will be expected to be prepared to follow through on agreed tasks and deliver against agreed timescales.
Think of mentoring as an investment that should bring to you at least a 50% return either in learning or financial outputs.
